Discover the Benefits of Reflexology

What is Reflexology

Reflexology works by stimulating the nervous system, circulatory system and energy pathways increasing blood flow to specific areas of the body. By applying pressure to specific reflex points on the feet, hands, face, or ears, professional reflexologists can help relieve pain, reduce stress, and improve overall health and wellbeing.

The History of Reflexology

Reflexology has been used for centuries by different cultures around the world. Its origins can be traced back to ancient Egypt, India, China, Japan, Greece, and Native Americans in North and South America, where it was used as a natural healing practice to address a variety of health concerns.

Benefits of Reflexology

  • Reduce stress
  • Improve circulation
  • Cleanse and detoxify the body
  • Revitalize energy flow
  • Improve the flow of nerve impulses throughout your nervous system
  • Aid your body's self-regulation toward homeostasis
  • Provide powerful preventive health care

Holistic Reflexology Methods

Supporting clients in any situation with multiple reflexology techniques.

Foot Reflexology

  • Ideal for addressing the entire body - every organ, gland, and system has corresponding points on the feet.
  • Widely used for full-body wellness and balance.

Hand Reflexology

  • Highly relaxing and accessible - can be done anywhere.
  • Especially useful when foot reflexology isn't possible (e.g., due to injury).
  • Hands serve as effective referral areas for the feet.

Face Reflexology

  • Offers a deep, calming effect due to its closeness to the brain and central nervous system.
  • Often experienced as the most profound form of reflexology.

Ear Reflexology

  • Recognized for its effectiveness in pain relief.
  • Often used in combination with face reflexology for enhanced results.

What to expect during a session

Reflexology is non-invasive. Your body is fully clothed - with only the feet, hands, face and ears exposed. Clients report feeling safe and secure; allowing for deep relaxation and stress relief.

Reflexology vs Massage

Massage works through the muscular system to restore metabolic balance within the soft tissue. Professional reflexology works predominantly through the nervous system and the body's subtle energy pathways to improve the function of every body system.

How does reflexology work

Reflexology, recognized by numerous national and international health institutions worldwide, is an effective and distinct complementary therapy within the holistic health field. Reflexology stimulates thousands of nerves soothing the nervous system and encouraging energy flow within the body and between organs allowing your body to return to its natural rhythms as your body, mind, and spirit are brought back into balance.

Important Considerations

Reflexology is generally safe for most people when performed by a trained practitioner. However, certain health conditions may warrant caution or complete avoidance.

Conditions Requiring Caution or Avoidance

Circulatory Issues

  • Blood clots (thrombosis or embolism)
  • Poor circulation in feet or legs
  • Phlebitis (inflammation of leg veins)

Foot Injuries and Conditions

  • Foot fractures
  • Unhealed wounds
  • Foot ulcers
  • Active gout in the feet

 Infections and Fever

  • Acute infections
  • Elevated body temperature (fever)

Diabetes (Advanced)

  • Particularly when accompanied by neuropathy or poor wound healing

Low Platelet Count (Thrombocytopenia)

  • Includes individuals with bleeding disorders or on blood-thinning medication

Pregnancy

  • Especially during the first trimester

Other Conditions

  • Epilepsy
  • Thyroid disorders
  • Use of blood thinners
  • Organ transplant recipients – Reflexology is generally not recommended in these cases.

Always consult a qualified healthcare provider to ensure that reflexology is a safe and appropriate complementary therapy for your individual situation.
